My thoughts on choreographing
When choreographing I aim to create a space for genuine and honest connection. To work towards this I love to use improvisation, both as a way of devising, and as an element of performance. I believe that the spontaneity inherent in improvisation allows for the possibility of the unexpected, not only for the audience, but for the performers. Performers having genuine real time reactions to unexpected moments can elicit honest and personal responses which can allow audiences to experience a sense of vulnerability from the performers. This vulnerability is something that I find beautiful not only within performance but within our everyday lives.
